Disney+ is doing this with Marvel and its other properties, WarnerMedia is locking Friends and Doctor Who on HBO Max and NBCUniversal reclaimed The Office for its Peacock service. If you can lock down a popular show or studio to your service, you're likely going to force people to add your plan to their list of monthly fees. The power when it comes to streaming in 2019 is exclusives. Making that stuff isn't cheap, and the company regularly raises prices to offset those costs. Hulu has the benefit of being under Disney's wing to offset its original slate, but Netflix is increasingly dependent on the content it's making to keep up. This means that libraries of movies and shows are becoming increasingly divided up, with any company that owns the rights to something people want to watch launching its own service. Now that streaming is all the rage, everyone wants a piece - and the networks and companies that own attractive content want a bigger slice of the pie. How did we get here?Ī decade ago, if you wanted to cut the cord, your options were limited to on-demand services like Hulu and Netflix. Exclusives are the new streaming currency, and to get everything you desire, you have to hand over a lot more money than you probably want to. The list of options grows longer almost daily, and some big names have plans to launch new services that will further silo the content you want to watch.

Generally though, once a Sling TV stream starts we don’t have problems. During some tests the, stream work perfectly, but there are times where we have to relaunch the app to get video streams to work. (The on demand streams are less reliable though.)įuboTV has a few small hiccups on newer devices (like Apple TV and iPad), but has major issues on some less powerful devices. While we still receive some errors, the live TV streams are generally very stable. Historically, AT&T TV NOW had issues with stream stability. This “adaptive streaming” feature gracefully degrades the video quality if your connection becomes worse. To reduce playback interruptions, all of the services will adapt the stream quality to match your network connection. These three services rarely have issues starting a video or switching between channels. Each service has some hiccups, but PlayStation Vue, Hulu Live TV, and YouTube TV are by far the most stable.
None of these services are perfectly stable in our connection testing. Most of our testing is on a 50 Mbps connection and an LTE mobile data connection. While most of the requirements say “10 Mbps,” we suggest a faster connection. If you are considering subscribing to these services, you should assume that you need at least a 25 Mbps internet connection.
